01 PROJECT OVERVIEW

Improving user experience

Syzl was created as a one-stop shop for food makers looking for certified kitchen space.

Kitchen listing creation and management functionality for Syzl was quickly assembled with minimal effort spent on user experience design. This has led to issues with the host experience that can cause inaccurate kitchen availability information. The calendar, kitchen availability, and rate functions needed specific attention, as they were difficult to keep updated and accurate.

Working in a group of 5 people we used various methods to analyze the problems of the existing system, proposed 3 conceptual solutions and completely redesigned the search and the booking portal of the Syzl website.

Four research methods were used to determine the areas of improvement and specific pain points within the Syzl listing creation process:

  • Heuristic Analysis

  • Usability Testing

  • Personas

  • Interviews

Each research method explored the overall listing creation process with a focus on the rates and availability features.

02 RESEARCH

Our group created a presentation showing the core problems, solutions, key metrics and competitive advantages. It included:

  • Lean Canvas

  • Value Proposition

  • User Journey

Based on our analysis each member created the Initial Concept in the form of low-fidelity wireframes.

03 VALUE PROPOSITION

Following Syzl’s existing brand guidelines and website design, our concepts build on and improve Syzl’s kitchen listing creation process, focusing on the rates and availability feature.

This includes adding a traditional calendar overview for Hosts to schedule and edit their kitchen availability and improving upon the option for Hosts to add recurring rates and availability. Our focus has been to include these core features in our concepts, and to simplify other steps in the listing creation process for a smooth user journey.

04 concept proposal

After reviewing our three mid-fidelity concepts, our client picked one to be developed into a high-fidelity concept. Feedback was provided to make sure that important functions were included which allowed us to prioritize specific features.

Using our high-fidelity concept, a series of tasks that represent a user journey through the rates and availability feature was drafted. A prototype was created to set up a usability test in Maze.

05 User Testing and Prototyping

After finalizing the layout of each feature and deciding on the visual design direction, the style guide and hi-fi prototype was created.

The style guide was based on Syzl’s existing brand and colour guidelines to include any new buttons and elements and all of their possible states, as requested by the client.

Syzl’s existing process has been streamlined to enhance intuitiveness and minimize clutter, showing input bars only when necessary.

Hover states play an important role in this design language, signaling to users which elements are interactive.
